Statue of the poet, writer, and journalist János Garay on the main square in Szekszárd. The female figure who provides a laurel wreath to the poet personifies the genius of poetry. On the opposite side is a relief by Miklós Köllő based on the illustration of Mihály Zichy: it depicts a scene from one of Garay’s famous works, The Obsitos.
BUT the most important thing we can see is a boy and a girl sitting on the pedestal and staring peacefully in the beautiful spring sunshine. New life begins after Covid. Our faith keeps us alive, the hope that affects all people on this earth.
